Special regulations
Since the 1st of November 2011 it will became compulsory in Romania to have winter equipment on road sections covered by snow or ice. It is a regulation designated to improve the road safety.
· Winter tyres are required for all vehicles on roads covered by snow or/and ice (good vehicles with MPW>3,5t and vehicles for passengers transport with more than 8+1 seats).
· Depth of tread must be at least 2mm.
· The tyres must be M plus S ( M+S, or M&S - Mud and Snow) type with the additional signs - snow flake and mountain crest AT LEAST on the axis / axes of traction. The “all seasons” tyres are not accepted.
· Snow chains are not compulsory but can be used as an alternative for winter tyres on roads covered by snow and ice. ATTENTION: the use of snow chains on roads NOT covered by snow and ice is strictly forbidden!
· The transport operators that blocked a road because they don’t have the vehicles properly equipped with winter tyres must cover the costs of this road relieving!
· It is recommended to carry a shovel and a bag of mixed salt and sand onboard the vehicle when winter conditions prevail.
